‘Dalai Lama in Frames’ The Photo Exhibition was launched on Wednesday the 06th July 2016 to celebrate the 81st birthday of His Holiness the Dalai Lama. It was the first of 24 exhibitions to be organised monthly in all 24 district capital cities in Sri Lanka. Simultaneously the Sri Lankan Tibetan Buddhist Brotherhood Society is organizing a book distribution campaign and talks on His Holiness the Dalai Lama by reputed local academics.
The event was on the local media during the past week and was a grand celebration to mark the 81st birthday of His Holiness the Dalai Lama in Sri Lanka. The ‘Dalai Lama in Frames’ photo exhibition was graced by the presence of the Mahanayake thero of Kotte Chapter of Siyam Maha Nikaya Most Venerable Dr. Ittapana Dhammalankara Mahanayake thero, the Anunayake thero of Asgiriya Chapter of Siyam Maha Nikaya, Most Venerable Dr. Anamaduwe Dhammadassi thero, Mahiyangana Royal Temple Nayake thero Most Ven. Urulewatte Dhammarakkhitha Thero (Asgiriya Chapter Executive Sangha Council), Most Ven. Aluthgama Dhammananda Thero (Malwatta Chapter Executive Sangha Council) and many other senior and junior Buddhist monks.
Her Excellency the Governor of the Central Province Ms. Niluka Ekanayake, Hon. Chief Minister Sarath Ekanayake, some members of the Central Provincial Council, the Chief Custodian of the Holy Temple of Tooth Relic Mr. Nilanga Dela Bandara, and many other government officials came to witness the exhibition.
Many professors and academics from the universities and higher education institutes in Kandy including the prestigious University of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka International Buddhist Academy and Polgolla Teachers’ College also attended the programme.
It was pleasure to see the way the both local and international audiences enjoying the photos exhibited in the Royal Ballroom premises in the historic Queen’s Hotel in Kandy. The event was broadcast/telecast on almost 12 local channels and it was live on V Fm, a popular radio station in Sri Lanka,
The organizers distributed a very attractive full-colour catalogue including all the photos among the participants. They also distributed the Sinhala Book ‘Senehase Paniwidaya – Dalai Lama Thumange Jeewana Manpetha Kiyaweema’ among the participants.
The Sri Lankan Tibetan Buddhist Brotherhood Society is organizing the next ‘Dalai Lama in Frames’ Photo Exhibition, book distribution and the talk on His Holiness the Dalai Lama on the 14th August at Mahatma Gandhi Centre in Matale.
The Sri Lankan Tibetan Buddhist Brotherhood Society express their heartfelt gratitude to Mr. Tenzin Choejor, the official photographer of His Holiness the Dalai Lama for the wonderful colour captures, the Foundation of Universal Responsibility of His Holiness the Dalai Lama and the Tibet Museum too for their invaluable archives. The society is also thankful to Madam Radha Venkataraman who is the former liaisons officer of His Holiness the Dalai Lama for her continuous support and assistance throughout since the inception of the society.
