A peace club was formed in Sri Jayawardenepura Girls School, Kotte. This is the third of the peace school club network. The programme was co-organized by International Peace Youth Group, South Korea, SHE Foundation and the Buddhist Brotherhood, Sri Lanka.
Dr. Damenda Porage, President of Sri Lankan Tibetan Buddhist Brotherhood Society addressed the teachers and the students. In his speech he emphasized the value of peace and explained the importance of living peacefully with other communities. He further said misunderstanding creates suspicion and the suspicion may lead to disharmony. ‘We all are human beings and we all have similar needs. Everyone wants happiness and no one wants suffering’. Dr. Porage added.
Mr. Julien Seo also addressed the gathering he explained the value of peace and how to make a world of peace. All the students gathered to form the peace club of the school sang “Heal the world”.
The principal of the school Ms. N. G. Sureka Siriwardene, teacher -in –charge Ms. Chamila Manik Kumari, representative SHE Foundation Ms. Dinu Jayasooriya, and Aloka Liyanage also participated in the event.
Sri Lankan Tibetan Buddhist Brotherhood Society donated ‘Senehase Panividaya’, the Sinhala book written by Mr. Jinadasa Hevage on His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s biography and the teachings, to the newly formed peace club of the school.
