BIOGRAPHY OF THE SUPREME PATRIARCH OF SRI LANKA LAUNCHED IN COLOMBO

The ceremonial launch of the life story of Most Venerable Kotugoda Dhammawasa Mahayake Thero, the Supreme Patriarch of Sri Lanka Amarapura Maha Nikaya (Great Assembly) was held a few days ago at the premises of Sri Dharmapalaramaya Viharaya, Mount Lavinia, Sri Lanka.

The first copy of the book was presented to His Excellency Gotabhaya Rajapaksha, the President of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka and Honorable Mahinda Rajapaksha, the Prime Minister was presented with the second copy of the book. The former Presidents Hon Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumarathunga, Hon Maithripala Sirisens, former Prime Minister Hon Ranil Wickramasinghe and the Opposition Leader Hon Sajith Premadasa also visited the Supreme patriarch to receive their copies of the biography. Taking prevailing health concerns into consideration, there was no elaborate arrangement to hold a large gathering and instead, the Maha Nayaka Thero has invited limited number of Buddhist monks, other religious dignitaries including some cabinet ministers and lay supporters to the Buddhasasana and presented each copy of the book to all. Dr. Damenda Porage, the Chairman of the Buddhist Brotherhood has also been invited to call on the Mahanayaka Thero and one copy of the book was presented to him.

Dr. Damenda Porage, in his explanation on the progress of the ongoing work of International Buddhist Confederation (IBC), has drawn the attention of the Mahanayaka Thero about the dire need of the hour to expand its scope of activities in the time to come. The numerous projects and activities being initiated by IBC in Sri Lanka under the dynamic leadership of Dr. Porage have come in for high praise by the Supreme Patriarch. Most Venerable Kotugoda Dhammawasa Mahaayake Thero gleefully recalled the moment of meeting with His Holiness Dalai Lama in New Delhi, India, sometimes ago and he especially thanked Dr. Damenda Porage, IBC and the staff for the important role he played relentlessly in providing the photographs of the meeting with the Buddhist spiritual leader, the Dalai Lama, in order to insert same into the book.

The Mahanayaka Thero appreciated the progress of current activities and commitment of the organization for the revival of Buddhism across far and wide in the world and assured of his support for the uninterrupted continuity of this great and noble service of the International Buddhist Confederation (IBC) of which Dr. Damenda Porage is the current Deputy Secretary General.

උත්තරීතර මහානායක අග්ගමහාපණ්ඩිත කොටුගොඩ ධම්මාවාස මහානායක මාහිමිපාණන් වහන්සේගේ චරිතාපදානය එළිදැක්වීම

ශ්‍රී ලංකා අමරපුර මහා නිකායේ උත්තරීතර මහානායක අග්ගමහාපණ්ඩිත කොටුගොඩ ධම්මාවාස මහානායක මාහිමිපාණන් වහන්සේගේ චරිතාපදානය පසුගිය දිනෙක එළි දක්වන ලදී. එහි පළමු පිටපත ශ්‍රී ලංකා ප්‍රජාතන්ත්‍රවාදී ජනරජයේ ජනාධිපති ගරු ගෝඨාභය රාජපක්ෂ මැතිතුමන් වෙත පිලිගන්වන ලද අතර දෙවන පිටපත ගරු අග්‍රාමාත්‍ය මහින්ද රාජපක්ෂ මැතිතුමාට පිළිගන්වන ලදී. රටේ උද්ගත වී ඇති තත්ත්වය හමුවේ මේ සඳහා විශේෂ උත්සවයක් සංවිධානය කිරීමට අවකාශයක් නොතිබූ අවස්ථාවක මහා නාහිමිපාණන් වහන්සේගේ ආරාධනයෙන් මහා සංඝයාවහන්සේලා ඇතු`ථ රජයේ මැති ඇමතිවරු සහ ප්‍රභූන් විහාරස්ථානයට පැමිණ උන්වහන්සේ හමුවූ අතර ඒ සෑම දෙනාටම උන්වහන්සේ මෙම පොතෙහි පිටපතක් බැගින් පරිත්‍යාග කරන ලදී.

බෞද්ධ සහෝදරත්ව පදනමේ සභාපති වශයෙන් කටයුතු කරන ආචාර්ය දමෙන්ද පෝරගේ මැතිතුමන්ද උන්වහන්සේගේ ආරාධනයෙන් විහාරස්ථානයේදී බැහැදුටු අතර මෙම ග්‍රන්ථයේ පිටපතක් එතුමා ට ද ප්‍රදානය කරන ලද්දේ මහනාහිමියන් ගේ සුරතිනි.

අන්තර්ජාතික බෞද්ධ සංසදය සහ බෞද්ධ සහෝදරත්ව පදනම මගින් ශ්‍රී ලංකාව තුළ ක්‍රියාත්මක කරනු ලබන නොයෙකුත් අධ්‍යාපනික සහ සමාජ සේවාමය වැඩසටහන් ගැන පැහැදිලි කළ දමේන්ද පෝරගේ මැතිතුමානන්ට එම වැඩ සටහන් සාර්ථකව ක්‍රියාත්මක කිරීම පිළිබඳව මහානායක හිමිපාණන් සිය ප්‍රසාදය පළ කර සිටියේය.

විශේෂයෙන්ම මෑතකදී උන්වහන්සේ ඉන්දියාවේ නවදිල්ලියේදී බෞද්ධ අධ්‍යාත්මික නායක අති උතුම් දලයි ලාමා මාහිමිපාණන් හමුවීම මහත් සතුටකින් යුතුව සිහිපත් කළ උන්වහන්සේ මෙම චරිතාපදාන පුස්ථකයටද එම හමුවීමේ ඡායාරූප එකතු කිරීමට හැකිවීම පිළිබඳව එම ඡායාරූප සපයා දුන් ආචාර්ය පෝරගේ මැතිතුමාට, අන්තර්ජාතික බෞද්ධ සංසදයට සහ කාර්ය මණ්ඩලයට ද සිය ප්‍රශංසාව පළ කරන ලදී.
